Rules of the Road

Driving & Overtaking

Drive on the right and overtake on the left
Overtake Trams on the right

Priority

Where no signs are used vehicles must give way to vehicles approaching from the right, otherwise obey road signs
Emergency vehicles (police, ambulance, army vehicles, etc.) have priority over other road users when using flashing lights and a siren
Trams have priority
On some roundabouts you have priority on some you don’t !!!!!!!!!
Cycles and mopeds have right of way on cars
At junctions give way if there is a row of white triangular signs on the road (Sharks teeth)

Warning of Approach

The use of the horn is only allowed in case of emergency, in order to avoid an accident flash your lights instead

Driving Penalties

The police can issue a fine but cannot collect on the spot
For serious incidents the police are allowed to confiscate vehicles of foreign motorists

Identifying Speed Camera Locations

If you have a GPS navigation system that shows you where any fixed speed cameras are, you must deactivate this function

Parking Regulations

Parking is prohibited where it may obstruct other vehicles
Parking is only allowed on the right hand side of the road parallel with the kerb
In one way streets parking is allowed on the left also
